Chicago is known for its food and the West Loop is no exception. GreekTown, which is located approximately between Van Buren and Madison along Halsted, is just a few blocks away from 565 Quincy. With dozens of great ethnic restaurants like Costa’s and Greek Islands and many family run retail shops like Athens Jewelry, GreekTown is a great place to walk around and explore on a weekend afternoon. It is an especially unique Chicago neighborhood because it has kept major retail out of the area in the past 20 years leaving a very authentic old time atmosphere.
This summer was no exception for great food and culture. On the weekend of August 22nd, the neighborhood hosted the annual Taste of Greece. The two day festival featured fantastic Greek food and great live music. With every restaurant in the area supplying tasting portions for the public, patrons were able to try out the wide variety of Greek food that makes the neighborhood so unique. The festival, which ran all day Saturday and Sunday, also featured live music, traditional Greek dancing, and games for children.
So, next time you are in the area, make sure you stop by GreekTown. Whether it is for shopping, dining, or a walk on a nice fall weekend afternoon, GreekTown is a hidden gem in the West Loop.
