The construction at 565 Quincy has been always been on a grand scale. Just summarizing the project, "We're taking an existing seven story building and adding eleven stories of steel and glass," sounds grand in both its size and the complexity of the undertaking. While we have focused so much on the large aspects of the project, from the engineering, steel erection, unit layouts and so on, we are now spending a lot of time focusing on the "small stuff." As a microcosm to the amount of work and detail that is involved in every step of the process, let's take a look at the lobby:
Once the lobby is configured and given a layout, we must then design everything that you'll see in it. First came flooring and we spent a great deal of time looking at various materials until we settled on a great looking tile. Our intent was to use three different colors so we needed a layout pattern. Below I've copied a computer screen shot showing the various files created for all the designs as we (Belgravia's managers & designers, our builder & our architect) worked to create the perfect tile layout. I think from this image you'll understand that a simple thing like, "let's put tile in the lobby," takes a great deal of time to perfect:
Next came lighting: we spent over a month looking for the right light fixtures, and once we had them in hand, here's the start to finish screenshot for our lighting design:
When such "simple" features like lighting and flooring can take this much work to get right, you begin to understand how much thought and effort goes into the larger elements of a project like Quincy. It's this attention to detail that is provided by every member of our development team that allows us to deliver a first-rate building. Even with this microscopic focus, our construction efforts move forward with alacrity to ensure we are on schedule to close our first units this Spring.
